Signs of Life in Newport Hills

These guys were having a smoke on their lunch break as I wandered the near-empty parking lot at the Red Apple, camera in one hand, dog leash in the other. They liked my dog, and were so sweet about having their picture taken.

I asked if they knew anything about the Red Apple closure, or if they worked at Herfy's (behind them). No on both counts. I think they're probably working in the neighborhood and stopped by for lunch.

It's amazing how a big empty parking lot can foster wonderful encounters like this.

With fewer customers around, the kid(?) who races his gas-powered remote-control car around the parking lot will be much happier.
